Privacy Policy
EatFitEZ is designed to work primarily on-device. Your profile and nutrition entries are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. We do not operate a backend or cloud sync for this app version. Optional AI features (food image analysis and nutrition label OCR) and database lookup send only the required image or text to external services to fulfill your request.
Data We Collect
- Profile data you enter (name, gender, birth month/year, height, weight, activity level, goals) - Optional profile photo if you add one - Nutrition items you log and related calculations - Optional food images you choose to scan with the "Scan Food with AI" feature or Nutrition Facts label photos for OCR - Optional barcode/UPC numbers you type for product lookup
How Your Data Is Used
Your data is used solely to calculate and display nutrition guidance within the app. By default, your data is stored locally and not transmitted to our servers or sold or shared with third parties. If you use optional features: • Scan Food with AI: the captured image is securely sent to a third-party AI service to estimate name, portion, calories, macros, and potential allergens. • Nutrition Label OCR: the label photo is sent to the AI service to extract serving size, calories, and macros. • Database Lookup: the barcode/UPC you enter is sent to the public Open Food Facts API to retrieve product data.
Storage and Retention
Data is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app or clearing app storage on your device will remove your data. If you uninstall or switch devices, your data does not automatically transfer. If you use AI features, images are transmitted over HTTPS to the AI processor for analysis and are not stored by us. We do not retain copies of scanned images or label photos. For database lookup, we send the UPC to Open Food Facts and do not store the query.
Permissions
- Photo Library: If you choose to add a profile photo, the app requests access to your photo library to let you select an image. Images remain on your device. - Camera: If you choose to use the optional "Scan Food with AI" or "Scan Nutrition Label" features, the app requests camera access to capture a photo. The photo may be sent to an AI processing service solely to generate nutrition estimates or OCR results.
Children’s Privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13. If you believe data was provided by a child, please delete the information from the device.
Security
We use device-level storage. While convenient, it may be accessible to anyone who has access to your unlocked device. Use a device passcode/biometrics and keep your device software up to date. Do not share your device with others you don’t trust. For AI scans, images are transmitted over HTTPS to reduce interception risk.
Third-Party Services
We do not use analytics, advertising SDKs, or third-party trackers in this app version. If you use optional AI features, the captured image or label photo is sent to our AI processing endpoint (toolkit.rork.com) to analyze and return estimates or OCR results. For product lookup, the entered UPC is sent to the Open Food Facts API (world.openfoodfacts.org). We do not include any identifiers beyond the necessary payload, and we do not receive or store persistent identifiers from these services.
International Users
Your locally stored data does not leave your device. When using the optional AI features, the image or text you provide is transmitted to our AI processor or Open Food Facts over HTTPS. These processors may be hosted outside your location depending on infrastructure. We do not store your images or UPCs.
Your Choices
The AI scan feature is entirely optional. You can always enter foods manually without using the camera. You may also revoke camera or photo permissions in your device settings at any time, which will disable those features.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the in-app Privacy Policy page with an updated date.
